Version 1.5

This update redesigns CueFlip for iPhone Duo and brings Wink to Turn Pages, a docked piano, camera scanning, stamps, and practice statistics.

CueFlip on iPhone Duo: a score open as two pages on the unfolded display, and a page turning on the folded one

Device Support

  • Designed for iPhone Duo: redesigned for the inner and outer displays and half-open use, with two pages on the inner display by default and the controls clear of the hinge.

New

  • Wink to Turn Pages: close your right eye to turn the page and your left eye to go back.
  • Docked Piano: the piano opens under the score, so you can read and play at the same time, in three sizes and with adjustable concert pitch.
  • New Piano Sounds: Analog Pad, Synth Pluck, Synth Lead, and Synth Bass.
  • Piano in Other Apps: use the CueFlip piano as an Audio Unit instrument in GarageBand, Logic Pro, AUM, and more.
  • Scan with Camera: photograph a paper score and CueFlip flattens curled or tilted pages, turns them upright, and splits an open book into two pages.
  • Stamps: 179 music symbols, including dynamics, articulations, fingerings, bowings, notes, rests, clefs, and guitar marks. Tap to place, hold to move, drag to the bin to delete.
  • Practice Statistics: practice time, streaks, a practice calendar, your busiest practice times, and page-turn accuracy over 7 days, 30 days, or 12 months.
  • Score Links: link repeats, D.C., and Coda, then tap to jump there and back while reading or performing.
  • Crop Margins: detect and trim blank margins so the score shows larger and clearer, without changing the PDF.
  • Custom Covers: use any page, or an image from Photos or Files, as a score's cover.
  • Import Images: create a score from photos or image files, one page per image.

Improvements

  • Score following: finds your place again after losing it, catches up a missed page turn, corrects mistaken jumps backward, and turns again a page you went back to by hand. One slip no longer costs the rest of the performance.
  • Eye Comfort: retuned to the IEC 62471 and CIE S 026 standards. In optical benchmarks, the default setting has about 31% less blue-light hazard and 28% less melatonin-suppressing light than a white page.
  • Page-turn statistics: every valid performance now counts, with a new accuracy calculation, wrong and missed turns, and a redesigned view.
  • Annotations: draw a line, circle, triangle, or rectangle and hold for half a second to turn it into a clean shape.
  • Metronome: tempo range expanded from 30–400 BPM to 1–500 BPM.
  • Two-page view: now on iPhone in landscape, with the first page on the left or the right.
  • CueFlip reopens the score you were reading, on the same page and at the same zoom.
  • Manage Pages: select several pages to duplicate, move, or delete at once, with sharper thumbnails that show the pages on screen first, even in huge scans.
  • The large widget shows two pages of a portrait score side by side.
  • The tutorial is now an interactive eight-page guide in all 13 languages.
  • Fixed sharing scores that haven't been taught yet, swipe-back in folders, and more, with major improvements to performance, memory use, and stability.

Version 1.4

This update brings iCloud sync, a new score-reading experience, and blank staff paper for writing your own music.

New

  • iCloud Sync: sync scores, recordings, page-turn settings, annotations, and folders across your iPhone and iPad.
  • Staff Paper: create blank single-staff or piano grand-staff scores, choose the number of pages, and start writing or annotating.
  • Go to Page: tap the page number and enter a destination to jump directly to it.
  • Metronome: tap the BPM number to enter a tempo directly.

Improvements

  • A new score-reading experience with more natural page-curl animations, smoother rapid page turns, and improved two-page viewing.
  • Faster loading and smoother zooming for long scores, with lower memory use while reading.
  • Better score following when you resume after a pause, with less interference from unrelated sounds.
  • Faster recording learning, page-turn adjustments, score exports, and operations in large libraries.
  • Improved PDF merging and page editing while preserving the original image quality.
  • Redesigned Dynamic Island and Lock Screen Live Activities for clearer page numbers and performance status.
  • Improved landscape layouts, bookmarks, and annotation tools; fixed accidental page turns while annotating.

1.3

Version 1.3

This update brings quick actions with a press and hold, gentler page tones, and a way to report page-turn problems.

New

  • Quick Actions: press and hold a blank area of the score to access the metronome, tuner, annotation tools, and more, or start performing from the current page. Customize up to four shortcuts and their order.
  • Eye Comfort: a new option in Sepia mode, with gentler page tones and more gradual brightness and warmth adjustments.
  • Page-turn problem reports: choose a recent performance and send an encrypted report containing audio and diagnostic data to help us investigate missed or mistimed turns.

Improvements

  • Score following: better tracking through repeated passages and faster recovery when you resume after a pause.
  • Memory: peak memory use when learning long recordings reduced by about 90%; starting a performance also uses less memory.
  • Improved responsiveness of the piano, metronome, and tuner.
  • Smoother transitions between display modes, with less flashing.
  • Improved support for VoiceOver, Voice Control, larger text, Reduce Motion, and Increase Contrast.
  • Fixed PDF rendering issues affecting some iPads.
  • Additional bug fixes and stability improvements.

1.2

Version 1.2

This update brings a piano you can play, a new welcome, and a way to earn Pro by inviting friends.

New

  • Piano: a full keyboard in the reader's tools, voiced key by key from recorded concert grands, with a sustain pedal, a room around it, and three key widths (Pro)
  • A new welcome: a short intro on first launch that shows how the main features work
  • Invite Friends: share CueFlip with a friend and earn points toward free Pro time
  • Bookmarks: mark any page and jump straight back to it from the bookmark panel
  • Press and hold Perform to start from the first page or the page you are on
  • Learn from here: start teaching a piece from the page on screen, not only from the top
  • Apple Pencil: touch the score with your Pencil and you are annotating

Improved

  • Tracking: recovers faster after a pause, corrects itself sooner when it has gone astray, and follows percussion such as marimba and timpani more closely
  • Tuner: answers faster when you change strings, holds still on a ringing note, and no longer names notes that are not there
  • Sharper page turns that carry your markings with them, including two-page spreads
  • Polish across the library, paywall, metronome and tuner on iPhone
  • Fixes for rotation, cropped pages, and taps that went unanswered on iOS 16
  • Many stability fixes and performance improvements

1.1

Version 1.1

Now runs on iOS 16.4, so many more iPads and iPhones can use it.

New

  • Annotation Layers: stack several ink layers on one score — fingerings, bowings, your teacher's notes — and switch each on or off
  • Widgets: Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets, a Control Center button, and a Live Activity showing the current page while you perform
  • Share Score: hand over a clean PDF, an annotated PDF, a .cueflip file someone can perform straight away, or send it to a printer
  • Metronome: time signature picker, 30–400 BPM, tap tempo, and devices in the same room can lock to the same beat (Pro)
  • Tuner: cents off, which way to go, and a concert pitch you can set to 442 or 415 — without leaving the score
  • Sepia: a warm paper tint between white and Night, with adjustable warmth, applied while performing as well as reading
  • Page rail on iPad: drag the rail at the edge to scan the whole score, preview the page you are heading for, then release
  • CueFlip Lifetime: one purchase, full access, forever

Improved

  • An imported PDF now opens straight in the reader; teach it a piece when you are ready
  • Tracking: faster lock-on, steadier in noisy rooms, quicker to find you when you start mid-piece
  • Metronome: rebuilt for rock-steady timing that stays right on the beat
  • Tap tempo: now reads your taps far more reliably, so you land on the right BPM every time
  • Sharper, faster page turns
  • Many performance improvements and dozens of fixes
